Arthur and Francis Rozett, of Yonkers, New York were married in 1917. They had seven children. The youngest boy became a Jesuit Priest. The other six, three boys and three girls, had twenty-nine children between them. Therefore, I am one of twenty-nine First Cousins. I am actually #5. Every couple of years, the cousins gather to honor and celebrate their heritage. The first reunion was in Yonkers in 2006. The pinnacle of that event was a tour of my grandparents house at 101 Orient Street. The current owners were very gracious in allowing us to recall our favorite childhood hideout. Since then there have been reunions in Hawaii, Tennessee, and Cape May, New Jersey. The most recent, in 2025, was on the Maine coast in York. More on that below.
For the next reunion, my cousins wanted to gather somewhere on the coast of Maine. Since I live only one hour away I was elected to facilitate. To make a long story short, we rented a home near Short Sands Beach in the town of York, Maine. The venue had thirteen bedrooms and seven baths. It had three sitting (living) rooms, a large dinning room, a large kitchen and an extraordinary front porch. Did I say that it sat right on the water (Atlantic Ocean)! It was a significant investment at $16,000 dollars for ONE week. My cousins came in from Oregon, California, Pennsylvania, North Caroline, and New York.
The venue had a large kitchen with two refrigerator, two dishwashers, etc. But we often went out for our meals. Obviously, Maine lobster was a must for many. Fox's Lobster House was less than one mile from the venue with a spectacular view of Nubble Light. But we had two very special eat-in nights. My cousin, Paul Fornaby, made a pasta and sausage dinner that was to die for. Paul learned from one of the best. My Aunt Dorothy, Paul's mom, was a fabulous cook. I have loads of wonderful memories as a young lad with Uncle Peter and Aunt Dot. They were wonderful people and just loved kids. The second eat-in night was my night to shine. My daughter, Courtney, had given me an electric pizza oven a year earlier. Before going to Maine, I made three batches of pizza dough, which made six pies. It was a hit. I came prepared with pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, caramelized onion, mushrooms, green pepper, and black olives. Prior to the gathering, I had made a list of nearby visitor attractions, such as lobster boat rides, Marginal Way, and Perkins Cove. Many took the opportunity to see some of those attractions.
